Update Regarding Class 5th, 8th Board Exams from 2022 in all schools, Private CBSE schools likely to be included

New Delhi: Schools in Haryana will have mandatory board examinations for Classes 5 and 8 students from this year. The state cabinet on January 18, passed the amendment to the Haryana Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Rules, 2011. The cabinet has also added new rules to the same, which would become effective immediately.

The Haryana government in an Extra Gazette notification, added a clause of board examinations for students of Classes 5 and 8 in the state. The Haryana Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Amendment) Rules, 2022, requires government and recognised private schools in the state to “conduct regular examinations in the fifth and eighth classes, or to authorise any other agency having expertise in conducting such examinations, at the end of every academic year.”

Haryana Board Exams for Classes 5, 8 – the new rules

The Government has enacted an Extra Gazette notification dated January 18, 2022 which adds a clause of board examinations for students of classes 5 and 8 in the state. The rule – called the Haryana Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Amendment) Rules, 2022 mandates ‘to conduct regular examination in the fifth class and in the eighth class or to authorize any other agency having expertise in conducting such examinations, at the end of every academic year, in Government and in recognized private schools in the State’.

In other words, all schools in the state of Haryana are required to conduct or get these exams conducted for the students of classes 5 and 8. The step has been taken to check the progress and have a standardized assessment of the expected learning outcomes.

Haryana Education Minister, Chaudhary Kanwar Pal took his Twitter and announced, “Taking an important decision in the field of education, the Haryana government has implemented the 5th and 8th board exams in the state. This historic decision will lead to high-level reforms in the education system.”
