IPL 2022 retention: List of players retained and released – All we know so far
Many IPL franchises have reportedly inked on the players they are retaining. The teams have to release the list of retained players by November 30. As the fans await a final word on the list of players retained and released, here’s everything we know about players retained and released so far –
Chennai Super Kings
Without any doubt, MS Dhoni will continue to be with Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He is more than just a player for the franchise and is expected to stay with them even if he retires from the game. As per The Indian Express, Ravindra Jadeja and Ruturaj Gaikwad are also in the fray to be retained.
Apart from them, one of Moeen Ali and Sam Curran will be retained. All the aforementioned players played a key role in the team’s success and the report doesn’t surprise many.
Delhi Capitals
A total of 2 reports have confirmed that Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Axar Patel and Anrich Nortje will be retained by Delhi Capitals (DC). The update means that Shreyas Iyer will be released. Though he isn’t expected to be back in the auction as one of the two new teams might rope him as its captain. Iyer has proven credentials as DC’s skipper.
Mumbai Indians
The Indian Express reported that Rohit Sharm and Jasprit Bumrah will be retained by Mumbai Indians (MI). Rohit is their most-successful skipper while Bumrah is MI’s homegrown player. Hence, retaining them is a no-brainer. Vice-captain Kieron Pollard and Ishan Kishan are two other players who are in the fray to stay with MI.
Kolkata Knight Riders
There are no confirmed reports about Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). But Sunil Narine looks set to be retained. The franchise will surely consider retaining Venkatesh Iyer as he can very well fetch more than Rs 10 crore if he is back in the auction.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Virat Kohli will be automatic retention by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). A report in NDTV recently suggested that Glenn Maxwell is another player which the franchise will retain.
Sunrisers Hyderabad
Cricbuzz has reported that Kane Williamson will continue his association with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and will also lead the team. The report adds that the franchise is in talks with Rashid Khan, who has only been part of one team in the league so far.
Punjab Kings
Multiple reports have confirmed that KL Rahul will be released by Punjab Kings (PBKS). There are high chances of him joining one of the two new teams as its captain.
Rajasthan Royals
A report in ESPNcricinfo has confirmed that Rajasthan Royals (RR) have retained Sanju Samson, who can be called their homegrown player. Samson had hogged the limelight after joining RR in 2013 and made it to the Indian team on the basis of his performances in IPL and the Champions League. Apart from Samson, Jos Buttler also looks set to be retained. But there’s no confirmation regarding him yet.
