Fuel prices at record levels after petrol, diesel prices raised again- Know latest rates here

New Delhi: Fuel prices were increased by Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) once again on Thursday. Petrol and diesel in the national capital Delhi reached Rs 106.54 per litre and Rs 95.27 per litre respectively after being raised by Rs 0.35 each.

  • In Mumbai, petrol costs Rs 112.44 per litre and diesel sells at Rs 103.26 per litre
  • In kolkata petrol costs Rs 107.12 and diesel Rs 98.38
  • In Tamil Nadu’s Chennai petrol costs Rs 103.61 & diesel Rs 99.59

While most petrol breached Rs 100 per litre mark in most Indian cities some time back, diesel too has crossed the figure in many towns and cities. Pump prices of fuel are maximum in Rajasthan’s Ganganagar where petrol is retailed at Rs 118.23 per litre and diesel at Rs 109.04 per litre.

Petrol and diesel are priced differently in different states due to Value-Added-Tax (VAT) and excise levies. The daily changes, if any, are implemented by state-run OMCs Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) at 6 am every day.

Domestic oil prices remain at record high levels owing to centre and state levied taxes. Also, multi-year high international crude oil prices are responsible for the series of hikes witnessed recently.

The rising fuel prices in the country are not going to come down immediately. The central government is in talks with several oil-exporting countries on the issue of supply and demand of oils but there is no possibility of immediate relief in prices.

On Monday, a source told ANI that the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas recently raised concerns about the matter of pricing, supply and demand of oils to the major oil-producing countries.

“As crude oil prices rise internationally, the petroleum ministry has called on the energy ministries of many countries such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, Russia and others,” the source told ANI.
