PM Modi addressed ‘empty seats’ at UN General Assembly: Congress, TMC | Watch
During his three-day visit to the US last week, PM Narendra Modi addressed the 76th session of the UN General Assembly in New York. In his 22-minute long address, the Prime Minister spoke on a number of key issues, including the production of Covid-19 vaccines in India and the global fight against extremism.
Citing the video of his address, the Congress on Monday said in a tweet that many seats were visibly empty at the UNGA during PM Modi’s speech. The Opposition party went on to claim that “no one even clapped”.
“It seems that the popularity of the self-proclaimed leader has ended,” read the tweet posted by Congress party’s official handle.
Congress MP and former Union minister P Chidambaram also said in a tweet, “I was disappointed that only a few seats were occupied when PM Modi addressed the U.N. General Assembly. And even more disappointed that no one applauded.”
When Modi spoke in the UN General Assembly most seats were empty, very few nations attended. Terrible – one applauded,” he wrote on Twitter.
Sircar, a former IAS officer and CEO of Prasar Bharati, added, “Last time, hall was more full. Is Modi getting the message the world is giving him?”
