Triplet birth in Cow at a time: rare incidence witnessed in Kashmir.The frequency of triplet birth in Cows is about 1 in 100000.

Ali Mohammad Lone hailing from a remote hamlet namely Muqampernia in Boniyar was astonished when her Cow gave birth to three calves at a time, 2 of them being males & 1 female.

Soon the news spread across the village and people thronged his house to have a glimpse of the mother and her calves. The owner of the cow was jubilant and everyone congratulated him.

On the directions of Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Baramulla, Dr. S. M. Anwar Andrabi veterinary officials too rushed to the spot to examine them and gave them some supplements and necessary medicines. Tips on the management too were provided to the farmer on the spot.

Pertinently, though multiple births are common in small animals such as Rabbits, but occurance of triplet birth in Cow is the rarest of the rare event happening once in about one lakh births (1 in 100000). (Agencies)
