Scuffle Between Locals & officials after J&K Govt attempts to retrieve ‘encroached’ prime land

JAMMU: A large number of Gujjar families assembled to scuffle with the officials of J&K Housing Board and police on late Saturday night as a strong contingent reached at Gole Market in posh Gandhi Nagar locality to get the ‘encroached’ land vacated.

Besides heavy deployment of police force, the officers of J&K Housing Board also reached the spot to get the land vacated where a car workshop is operating adjoining Sai Temple in Gole Market.

A large number of labourers, heavy machinery, JCBs were pressed into the service to get the possession of the land measuring around eight to ten kanals.

All the entry points to the Gole Market area were seized and no vehicle was allowed to move to the area.

Sources informed that the J&K Housing Board has been ordered to take the possession of this prime land. The board has also dumped the construction material at the spot to start constructing the boundary wall on the aforesaid land.

The locals, who have ‘illegally’ occupied this piece of land have assembled late night to force the government officials not to raise any construction. They alleged that the matter is sub judice and they have all documents to prove their possession. “The government is trying to suppress us,” the locals shouted on seeing camera-persons covering the anti-encroachment drive.

Till the filing of the report the locals, police officials and staffers of J&K Housing Board were engaged in verbal duel. Even the media persons were not allowed to enter the spot while the government also didn’t issue any statement.B
