7th Pay Commission: Centre to Announce DA Hike for Govt Employees Ahead of Haryana Assembly Elections 2024? Details HERE

The central government’s announcement on the dearness allowance (DA) hike, as per the 7th Pay Commission, is expected to be delayed, according to recent reports. While earlier reports suggested the government would announce the DA hike in early September, it is now anticipated that the announcement will align with the Haryana Assembly elections, scheduled for October 5.

Historically, DA hikes are revealed one to two weeks before Diwali, and this year is expected to follow the same trend. The government usually raises DA and dearness relief (DR) twice a year, effective from January and July, with announcements typically made in early March and October.

Reports suggest that the hike may be announced by the end of September, and central government employees and pensioners can expect the DA hike to reflect in their October salary or pension, including arrears from July to September.

Based on the All India Consumer Price Index (AICPI) and an increase from 138.8 to 141.4 between December 2023 and June 2024, it is anticipated that DA will increase by at least 3%, raising the percentage from 50.28% to 53.36%. This calculation is based on retail price changes across various sectors, with the base year set at 2016.

If the DA hike is implemented in October, employees and pensioners will receive a significant boost, benefiting from three months of arrears alongside the increased monthly allowance.
